PROJECTS: SUPPLY CHAIN VISIBILITY IN THE DECENTRALISED DIGITAL ECONOMY
Team: Michael Rogerson, Pedro Lafargue, Glenn Parry.
Objective: To examine and develop supply chain visibility that co-creates value for individuals, organisations and society. With increasingly complex supply chains the ability to monitor inter-organizational activities has become progressively more difficult. Supply chain visibility (SCV), defined as “the identity, location and status of entities transiting the supply chain, captured in timely messages about events, along with the planned and actual dates/times for these events” (Francis 2008), allows managers to control cost, quality and sustainability. Blockchain-based solutions can provide data immutability within SCV systems. A lack of visibility leads to common challenges including abusive labour practices and environmental damage. Work examines different supply chains, focussing on challenges and solutions created through SCV.
Literature: Supply chain visibility, sustainability
Target journals: Supply Chain Management.
Methods Analysis: Methods are multi-modal. Qualitative analysis are undertaken via case studies drawn from food companies using semi-structured interviews. Fieldwork has been undertaken with site visits, observation and sampling. Biomarkers were created by Lafargue using DNA extraction.
