VACANCY: DECaDE Marketing and Communications Manager (Part-time)

VACANCY: DECaDE Marketing and Communications Manager (Part-time)

Are you a great communicator, fascinated by cutting edge research in science technology?

Could you help communicate and share our excitement for world-leading research in Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain?  Could you advocate for our work to the general public, as well as to experts in academia and industry?

We are looking for a marketing and communications manager, to help promote and spread the word about our activities with DECaDE – the UK’s Next Stage Research Centre for the Decentralized Digital Economy.  DECaDE is a flagship research centre, working with over 40 industry partners to explore the potential of data-driven technologies like Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence to our future digital economy.  We are a deeply multi-disciplinary research centre – our membership spans social scientists, technologists, designers and lawyers located within the Universities of Surrey and Edinburgh, and the Digital Catapult – a non-profit org for accelerating technology transfer between academia and industry.  Problems we tackle include secure identity, fighting fake news and misinformation, fairer and more inclusive digital platforms, new business models for the creative industries and for a data driven economy.

The role on offer is part-time – 2 days per week (i.e. a 40% working week), and flexible in terms of hours and location.  The University embraces hybrid and flexible working, and would expect you to be in the office for an average of 50% of your working time.

Duties would include leading the development and periodic refresh of a communications and outreach strategy for our centre, including activities such as:

  • promoting the centre’s activities via authoring news and blog posts on our website, including proactively sourcing news from within the centre’s membership
  • promoting the centre via social media channels
  • internal networking within the University to identify links and opportunities to spread the word about our work
  • leading on the periodic production of newsletters and brochures detailing the centre’s work.
  • organising virtual and physical workshops and meetings to help disseminate the work of the centre

A proactive, engaging attitude driven by enthusiasm for science and technology is essential for this role as is a high standard of written English. Familiarity with digital tooling such as WordPress or social media platforms would be beneficial.
